The past few days have come with some tragic news of intense forest fires in Brazil, which contains 60% of the Amazon Rainforest – home to about 3 million plants and animals, and 1 million Indigenous people. Over 9,500 fires have been reported in the Amazon since last Thursday, with over 74,000 fires in the region this year.

After record lows in deforestation from 2009 to 2018, this news weighs heavy on our hearts.

While wildfires often occur in the dry season in Brazil, they are also deliberately started in efforts to illegally deforest land for cattle ranching, logging, and mining. This is devastating to the Amazon’s biodiversity, forests, and Indigenous communities.

As a reforestation organization, what we can do to help is plant trees and work with local partners to fund environmental restoration efforts. That’s exactly what we’ll do in Brazil as soon as possible, and what we’re currently doing in the 2nd largest country in the Amazon Rainforest: Peru.

With your support, we’ll do all we can to help the Amazon Rainforest thrive – because our entire planet depends on it.

Shockingly enough I just noticed today that the Brazilian Rainforest is on fire for shocking 16 days. The Media is not covering this enough and is drawing our attention away from this important issue. As I will plant one Tree for every Paperlegend produced this is the first opportunity to help our planet in the context of my project.
